ORDER of the CEREMONY
Below you will find a list of various components used in wedding ceremonies. Most of these things are optional, as Ontario requires only that the couple state their vows and sign the marriage license for a legal union.
But, as you will see, there is much more available to perfectly personalize your ceremony!
You will have a decision to make for each component with a button. Click, and you will find a page of suggestions. The two of you can pick the option that suits you best.
(Please note that if you have ideas of your own, or from other sources, I will be happy to accommodate you if this is possible. Let me know what you have in mind.)

CEREMONY COMPONENTS
Each member of the wedding party must make his or her way to the front of the venue. Music may be played, and is often switched to a special song when one or both of you travel down the aisle. (We will discuss the processional in detail, so there will be no confusion during your ceremony.)
The Officiant makes some opening remarks. An opening prayer is optional.
Traditionally the “giving away” of the bride, there are also some modern options which show support to the couple by both parents, family members, or all guests.
You have the option of adding 1 or 2 readings to your ceremony. They can be romantic or spiritual, and read by the Officiant or a guest. A special song is another option here.
The “I do’s”. Traditionally you each respond individually, but in more contemporary versions, the couple can respond together, indicating their intention to marry.
(There are 2 brief statements which must be incorporated into your ceremony to fulfill the requirements of the Marriage Act of the Province of Ontario. One will be placed here, and the second will be added to the Vows or to the Ring Exchange.)
MOTIVATIONAL MOMENT:
A 3 to 4 minute talk, weaving your love story into the ceremony.
You may prefer to write your own wedding vows to one another. If that isn’t your cup of tea, perhaps you would like one of the prompted vows on our suggestions page.
The Officiant will make a brief statement explaining the symbolism of the ring exchange. A prayer or blessing over the ring(s) can be added, if you choose.
This is followed by your prompted words, and the giving of the ring(s).
You and your witnesses will sign the Marriage License. This can be a part of the ceremony, (If so, a small table and pen will have to be ready.) or can take place immediately following the ceremony. Music can be played at this time.
It is possible to add one or two symbolic elements to your ceremony. There are several ideas to look through, or perhaps you have one of your own that we can try to accommodate.
You are pronounced to be united in marriage.
Here is where we let your guests know what comes next… A group photo? Cocktail hour? Seating time for dinner?
Closing remarks, prayer or a blessing to the couple.
Using the names of your choice, you are presented as a married couple for the first time.
